I was the exhibition designer on this project: a partnership between Leeds-based arts organisation Space2 and two local primary schools (Allerton CE Primary and Thorpe Primary).
We brought the students, aged 7–10, into our university studio and led workshops with them based around trees, paper, literature, and art. This then culminated in an exhibition we hosted at Leeds Central Library for 3 weeks. The opening was a huge success; both primary schools visited and enjoyed seeing their work represented in an exhibition. For most of the students, this was their first time in a university setting. It clearly inspired them and let them know that university is an achievable, attainable goal, and especially, that they had the ability to study art at university. On multiple occasions, we saw children's dreams to have careers as artists validated just by being in an art university setting and hearing about us and each of our practices.
It was given coverage by Leeds TV and The Yorkshire Evening Post.
